New Born Re-assorted Influenza A (H1N1) Virus
Influenza A (H1N1) is caused by a new virus that has never before circulated in humans. It is not related to previous and current human seasonal influenza virus which was a cause for illness in people. It is also detailed as the result of re-assortment (made up of genetic elements from four different flu viruses) of four known strains of influenza A virus(one endemic in humans, one endemic in birds, two endemic in swine). It was first detected and isolated in the people of US in April 2009. It is still not known where the virus originated. This virus spreads from person – to-person and it requires no contact with pigs and it spreads almost in the same way that regular and seasonal influenza spreads. There is no vaccine yet to protect humans from this virus. However there are recommended medicines to treat this virus infection effectively but this influenza can be fatal if it is unnoticed or untreated. It is also fatal due to the combination of other diseases existing in an individual.
This virus was originally referred to as “swine flu” because laboratory tests showed that many of the genes in this new virus were very similar to influenza viruses that normally
Occur in pigs. By this time there is no evidence that swine are infected with this new virus. However there are flu viruses that commonly cause outbreak of illness in pigs.
MODE OF SPREAD
This virus spreads from human to human by the infected droplets expelled from cough and sneezing that can be inhaled or that can contaminate hands or any surface of the body. By having the contact with things of flu virus and then touching one’s mouth, nose and eyes.
We have to think positively that this virus will leave the globe spontaneously without doing much damage to the humans.
